Members of Parliament (MPs) have objected to the statement expressed a few days ago by Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song.

Speaking at the meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives on Thursday, lawmakers Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bhim Acharya, Barsha Man Pun, Mahantha Thakur, Dhawal Shamsher Rana, Shishir Khanal, Prem Suwal and Prabhu Sah expressed their dissatisfaction with the Chinese Ambassador’s recent statement.

In a program in Kathmandu a few days earlier, Ambassador Chen had commented that Nepal has been bearing a loss from the electricity being exported to India.

The lawmakers have objected to this statement, saying that China has no right to speak about Nepal’s relations with other countries.

CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal said foreign diplomats should take the Nepal’s geopolitical sensitivity into consideration while expressing their views.

“Foreign ambassadors should understand that Nepal’s geopolitical condition is very sensitive. Anyone’s expression should not push the Himalayan nation into further jeopardy,” said Nepal, who is also the former prime minister of Nepal, “Nepal always sticks to its non-alignment foreign policy.”

UML leader Bhim Acharya said foreign countries have no right to interfere in the internal affairs of Nepal.

Similarly, CPN (Maoist Center) Barsha Man Pun said the third party should not be allowed to interfere in the internal issues. To interfere in internal issues is also against the diplomatic norms and values, said Pun.

“Ambassadors regardless of which country they are from should not interfere in the internal issues of Nepal. To interfere in internal issues is also against the diplomatic norms and values. Nepal itself resolves this issue itself. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should take the initiative to make aware of the Chinese ambassador about this issue,” said Pun.

Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur commented that Chinese Ambassador’s statement is objectionable. “The third party should not interfere in the issues between the two countries.”

Rastriya Prajatantra Party lawmaker Dhwal Shamsher Rana said the government should summon Chinese ambassador and make him aware of such statements.

Likewise, Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Shishir Khanal warned that the country will plunge into geopolitical complexities if ambassadors comment on Neapal’s relations with the other countries. The Foreign Ministery should make  the Chinese envoy aware of the repercussion of his statement through a diplomatic note.
