Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, is not going to attend the G20 summit to be held in New Delhi.
According to international media outlets Sanchez, who was making preparations to attend the summit, has canceled his plan after he tested positive for COVID-19.
“I have undergone coronavirus test today. The test result came out positive,” Sanchez wrote on social networking sites, “Therefore, I won’t be able to attend the G20 summit this time.”
Following cancellation to attend the summit, Deputy Prime Minister Nadia Calvino, Finance Minister and Foreign Minister will attend G20 representing Spain.
Sanchez is going to be the third leader abstaining from the G20 summit.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin are also not attending the 2023 summit of the leaders from the Group of 20 major economies.
The two-day summit to be hosted by India in New Delhi on September 9 and 10 will discuss pressing global issues, including climate change, clean energy transition, and tackling poverty.
The meeting was supposed to bring together leaders of the 20 member states and delegates from 40 countries.
