CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and International Liaison Department head of Communist Party of China (CPC), Liu Jianchao, met in Beijing on Monday.

In the meeting between General Secretary Pokharel and CPC International Liaison Department Head Liu, issues related to bilateral interests and cooperation were discussed.

During the meeting, General Secretary Pokharel said that the map of Nepal was passed by the Parliament and formally issued in line with the Sugauli Treaty signed in 1816.

He told the Chinese leader that Nepal has been facing pressures and difficulties due to the map.

"We want the support of the Chinese government and the Communist Party of China for the implementation of the new map,” Pokharel said, “We are firmly in favor of One China Policy. We never allow anti-China activities to take place in the Nepali soil.”

During the meeting, he also said that CPN (UML) wants to maintain international relations and cooperation on the basis of non-alignment foreign policy and the principles of Panchsheel (a set of five principles of peaceful coexistence).

He also apprised the Chinese leader of the recent campaign of UML during the meeting. “We have completed a mission grassroots campaign to make UML a strong national force. This campaign has provided new communication and enthusiasm in the party”, he said, “Again we have started Mission 2084 campaign.”

Pokharel also said that he was in favor of the speedy implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of UML President and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to China and the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal.

What did the Chinese leader say?
During the meeting, CPC International Liaison Department Head Liu thanked UML leader Pokharel for being firm on the One China policy.

“There is strong and cordial ties between the UML and the Communist Party of China. We want to take it to a new height,” said Liu.

During the meeting, he mentioned that there are forces that do not want close relations between China and Nepal.

"We are determined to implement the agreements reached during the visit of our President Xi to Nepal and the agreements reached when UML Chair and then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visited China," he said, "We will do our best to speed up the implementation of those agreements."

“Nepal and China have close and friendly relations. Nepal is a good friend of China”, Liu further said, “to take our relations to a new height at the state and people-to-people level, the relationship between UML and CPC should be bolstered.”

"China has always been in favor of peace, development and prosperity", he said, "in the future, you will always have our support and cooperation in every step you will take towards this goal."
