Chitwan Medical College has been vandalized over the death of a patient on Tuesday.

The irate kin of the deceased barged into the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital and vandalized the window panes, door and other medical equipment indiscriminately, incurring a loss of millions of rupees, the hospital administration said.

The agitating groups also manhandled on-duty doctors and nurses at the ICU, said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pratap Devkota.

"The vandalism is condemnable as it was carried out while critical patients were undergoing treatment. The vandalism has incurred a loss of millions of rupees. The doctors and nurses have also been manhandled," said Devkota.

Ramesh Kunwar,36, of Bharatpur-13 passed away in the course of treatment. Kunwar had been admitted to the hospital after he suffered from pancreatitis and high blood pressure. According to the hospital administration, the patient was administered medicine by opening the central vein while the irate kin took it for the operation of his neck which allegedly led to his death.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 10  individuals for their alleged involvement in the vandalism.
