Members of Parliament Indra Angbo and Kedar Karki have submitted their claims for the post of Chief Minister of Koshi Province on Thursday.
Both Angbo and Karki staked their claims for the post stating that they have the support of 47 MPs each. However, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has remained neutral so far.
In the 93-member provincial assembly, there are 40 MPs including the Deputy Speaker of UML, 29 MPs from Nepali Congress, 13 MPs from the Maoist Center, 4 MPs from the CPN (United Socialist) and 1 MP from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).
The RPP with 6 MPs is neutral.
A meeting of the ruling alliance, earlier in the day, decided to field Angbo, who is also the Maoist Center Parliamentary Party leader of Koshi Province, to the post of Chief Minister on behalf of the ruling coalition.
Uddhav Thapa, the leader of Nepali Congress Koshi Province, became the Chief Minister twice, but the government collapsed on the ground of not receiving a vote of confidence.
That is why the alliance has decided to form the government under the leadership of the CPN (Maoist Center) as per Article 168 (5).
The coalition believes that Angbo will also be supported by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). However, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has remained neutral so far.
The RPP has called a central committee meeting at 8 am on Friday to decide on the Koshi Province government.
"We have not supported anyone. Tomorrow morning at 8 am in the morning, we will hold a meeting and take a decision," RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden told Nepalkhabar.
The Chief Minister has given time till 5 pm on Friday to submit the claim for the formation of a new government in line with Article 168 (5) of the Constitution.
A new political scenario has developed in Koshi Province on Thursday.
The politics of Koshi Province has become more complicated as the chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba and Shekhar Koirala split into factions.
