Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called a meeting of the Central Work Execution Committee (CWEC).
The CWEC meeting will take place at President Deuba's residence in Dhumbarahi at 3 pm on Friday afternoon.
"The meeting of the CWEC of the Nepali Congress will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday (October 13, 2023) at the residence of President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Dhumbarahi," a notice issued by Krishna Prasad Paudel, the chief secretary of the central party office said.
The office-bearers and members of the CWEC have been requested to attend the meeting, according to Paudel. The meeting is expected to dwell on the appointment of Chief Minister of Koshi Province.
The appointment of the Chief Minister of Koshi Provine has become complicated after two candidates –Indra Angbo from CPN (Maoist Center) and Kedar Karki from Nepali Congress – laid their claims to the post of Chief Minister. Booth the candidates are from the ruling alliance.
The deadline issued to the parties to submit claims in line with Article 168 (5) of the Constitution by Province Chief Parshuram Khapung is expiring at 5 pm today.
Deuba called the meeting after Karki, who is loyal to Shekhar Koirala camp, submitted his claim for the post of Chief Minister against the decision of the ruling alliance.
A meeting of the ruling alliance on Thursday morning had decided to give the Chief Minister to the Maoist Center.
Deuba has intensified internal discussions after Karki laid his claim for the Chief Minister with the help of UML lawmakers.
Maoist Center Parliamentary Party leader Indra Angbo submitted his claim with the support of 47 MPs to Province Chief Khapung for the Chief Minister in line with the agreement of the ruling alliance.
One hour later (at 6 pm Thursday), Karki with the help of eight MPs close to Shekhar faction of Nepali Congress and 39 MPs of CPN (UML) staked his claim for the post of Chief Minister.
Karki’s move has widened the rift among the leaders in the ruling Nepali Congress.
