At a time when Kedar Karki, the rebel leader of the Nepali Congress, became the Chief Minister of Koshi Province, it was estimated that the ruling coalition would split, Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has expressed his commitment in writing to stand firm with the ruling alliance.

Although the alliance with the Congress put forward Indra Angbo, the leader of the CPN (Maoist Center), as the chief minister of Koshi, the Shekhar group revolted and nominated Kedar Karki as the chief ministerial candidate.

What was interesting was that the majority of signatures submitted by both the candidates to Province Chief contained the names of eight members of Nepali Congress Province Assembly.

Therefore, Province Chief Parshuram Khapung called the concerned MPs to his office on Saturday to verify their signatures.

But Karki was appointed Chief Minister after eight members of the Congress Province Assembly identified themselves in favor of Karki who was supported by 39 MPs of UML.

Likewise, Shekhar Koirala in a meeting with the ruling alliance, expressed his commitment in writing to stand firm with the power alliance.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ who is also the Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center), NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Koirala have agreed in writing to maintain the ruling alliance.
