Uddhav Thapa, the leader of the Nepali Congress Koshi Province Parliamentary Party (PP), has resigned from his post.
Thapa resigned as the PP leader on the ethical ground after Kedar Karki of the Shekhar Koirala camp of Nepali Congress succeeded in becoming the Chief Minister against the decision of the ruling coalition.
Although the alliance with the Congress put forward Indra Angbo, the leader of the CPN (Maoist Center), as the chief minister of Koshi, the Shekhar group revolted and nominated Kedar Karki as the chief ministerial candidate with the backing of the main CPN (UML).
What was interesting is that the claim submitted by both of them to the Province Chief for the post of Chief Minister had the signatures of eight state assembly members of the Congress. After that, the Province Chief Parshuram Khapung called the concerned MPs to verify their signatures.
Karki was appointed Chief Minister after eight members of the Congress Province Assembly identified themselves in favor of Karki who was supported by 39 MPs of UML.
A meeting of the ruling coalition held in Kathmandu has also decided to support Chief Minister Karki.
