The Election Commission (EC) said on Saturday that preparations for general elections have been completed.
At a press meet today, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapalia said that all the preparations for the general elections have been completed.
"Elections will be held peacefully in a free and fair manner and all the preparations for the same has been completed," he said.
Thapaliya said that the EC staffers will closely monitor the implementation of code of conduct during polls.
Thapaliya also urged the voters to exercise their democratic franchise without any fear.
A total of 298,589 security personnel has been deployed to guard voting booths. Of them, 74,849 are from the Nepal Army, 71,693 from the Nepal Police, 35,116 from the Armed Police Force, 115,000 temporary police, and 1,921 from the National Intelligence Department.
Nepal is holding federal parliament and provincial assembly elections tomorrow. This is the second time the country is having general elections after the promulgation of a new Constitution in 2015.
A total of 2,412 candidates – 2,187 men and just 225 women – are vying for 165 of the 275 seats in the House of Representatives under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system. The remaining 110 lawmakers will be elected through proportional representation (PR) system.
