UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said that the issue of transitional justice is delicate and complex and that Nepal is not alone in resolving it.
Addressing the joint session of the Federal Parliament on Tuesday, Guterres, who is on an official visit to Nepal, said that transitional justice can play an important role in maintaining lasting peace.
“Transitional justice can play a vital role in securing lasting peace. But it is not easy. By nature, it is a delicate and complex process, "Guterres said during his address.
He further said that with success in transitional justice, meaningful solutions can be found for all victims of human rights violations.
"What we do know is that transitional justice has the greatest chance of success when it is inclusive and comprehensive, with victims at its center,” said Guterres.
“When it focuses on truth, reparations and justice, not only women when participate fully," he said during his address to Parliament, "but also all victims of human rights violations can find meaningful redress.”
“I welcome progress and efforts to find solutions in Nepal. You are not alone,” said he, “Nepal's journey in the past thirty years has been remarkable and wonderful.”
He also said that the United Nations Charter is at the center of the new republic with a new constitution.
