Oman wins T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier title

Oman clinched the title of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier final by defeating Oman with 11 runs in the super over at the Kirtipur-based TU Cricket Ground on Sunday. 

After tying at 184 runs in the allotted 20 overs, the match entered the super over. Batting first, in the super over, Oman posted a target of 22 runs for Nepal. Chasing the target, Nepal lost a wicket of Kushal Bhurtel in the first ball. They faced a dot ball from Bilal Khan and collected two runs each from the third and fourth ball. Kushal Malla hit two boundaries in the fifth and sixth ball each.

Prior to this, winning the toss and batting first, Nepal made 184 runs in the allotted 20 overs at the loss of six wickets. Chasing the target of 185 runs, Oman played a draw in 20 overs at the loss of nine wickets, leading to the super over.

Oman’s Kashyap Prajapati made the highest 63 runs including three fours and four sixes followed by Aqib Ilyas, Zeeshan Maqsood and Mohammad Nadeem with 33, 26 and 24 runs, respectively.

For Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane and Karan KC took two wickets each while Sompal Kami, Gulsan Jha, Abinash Bohara and Bibek Yadav took one wicket each.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss, Nepal had notched up 184 runs losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Gulsan Jha topped the score with 54 runs including five fours and four sixes off 25 balls. Similarly, skipper Rohit Paudel made 52 not-out runs including five fours and two sixes off 37 deliveries. Kushal Bhurtel and Karan KC Sundeep Jora contributed 31, 20 and 10 runs, respectively. 

On the bawling side, Bilal Khan took the highest three wickets followed by Aqib Ilyas and Zeeshan Maqsood with two and one wicket, respectively for Oman. 

Today's match is a battle of prestige for both Nepal and Oman teams. Both Nepal and Oman have already qualified for the T20 World Cup by winning their semi-final matches.

The T20 World Cup will be held in the West Indies and the United States of America in 2024.
