Ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to provide Rs 5 million in immediate relief assistance to the earthquake victims.
A central work execution committee (CWEC) meeting of the Nepali Congress held at the residence of President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Dhumbarahi took a decision to this effect, informed Min Bahadur Biswakarma, the spokesperson of the Nepali Congress.
“The CWEC meeting has decided to provide Rs 5 million for the immediate rescue, relief and rehabilitations of the victims of the earthquakes that struck Jajarkot and Rukum West of Karnali Province on Friday night,” Bishwakarma told mediapersons following the meeting.
Similarly, CWC member Jeep Chhiring Lama has pledged Rs 1.1 million and former Member of Parliament (MP) and Nepali Congress leader Dibya Mani Rajbhandari expressed commitment to provide Rs 500,000 in relief assistance for the quake victims, said Bishwakarma.
He said that this amount will be deposited in the disaster management fund before distributing it to the quake victims. The other party members have also been asked for assistance, according to Bishwakarma.
“The meeting has endorsed the decision to dole out Rs 5 million for the immediate relief and treatment of quake victims. Since this amount is not sufficient, the office-bearers, CWC members and people’s representatives have been asked to extend support and the government’s attention has been drawn for the effective rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the quake victims,” said Bishwakarma.
Likewise, the CWEC meeting has also formed a monitoring and facilitation committee under the coordination of general secretary duo Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Gagan Kumar Thapa to supervise, liaise and facilitate the distribution works, Bishwakarma added.
Bishwakarma further said that the meeting of the Mahasamiti of the Nepali Congress will start from December 15 and continue until 19.
Earlier, the NC had decided to hold the Mahasamiti meeting from December 1.
An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale devastated Jajarkot and Rukum West, the hilly districts of Karnali Province, on Friday night, leaving scores of people dead and hundreds of others injured.
