CPN (UML) has decided to stay in opposition while maintaining the vote of confidence given to Chief Minister Kedar Karki of Koshi Province.
Chief Whip Rewati Raman Bhandari informed Nepalkhabar that a party meeting held on Monday decided to maintain the vote of confidence even if the UML minister tendered his resignation.
Dissatisfied UML pulled out of the government on Saturday after Chief Minister Karki expanded the province government including CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist).
"From now onwards, we will stay in opposition," said Bhandari, "As for the vote of confidence, we have decided to maintain the current support."
Karki, who rebelled against Nepali Congress, was appointed as the Chief Minister of Koshi Province with the support of UML in line with Article 168 (5) of the Constitution.
Of the 93-member Province Assembly, 39 lawmakers from the ruling alliance (Congress 21, Maoist Center 13, Unified Socialist 4 and Janata Samajbadi Party 1), 39 from CPN (UML) and eight from Congress lawmakers from Shekhar Koirala camp, who revolted from within the party, cast votes for Karki.
