Record-breaking mountaineer Nirmal Purja alias Nimsdai has received new Non-Resident Nepali Citizenship today.
Receiving the NRN citizenship certificate at the District Administration Office in Myagdi today, Nimsdai said he felt ‘proud and humble’ to receive this new citizenship, stating that this new citizenship, he believes, will help Nepalis living abroad invest back into their home country.
“I am so happy and proud to receive this. I am proud to represent Nepal and her wonderful community, and to raise the names of all those working and living in Nepal’s mountain communities.”
Born in Dana, Myagdi District, Nimsdai served for 16 Years in the military, first as a Gurkha and then in the UK Special Forces.
He rose to fame through his 14/7 Challenge – a groundbreaking record, that saw him climb all 14 Peaks in the world over 8,000m in just 6 months and 6 days.
Nimsdai is also a Global Goodwill Ambassador for Nepal Tourism and has made it his mission to raise awareness and understanding of Nepal’s rich and vibrant culture in his work across the globe.
This work, including his film 14 Peaks, has helped showcase Nepal as a tourist destination, helping to raise the names of the Sherpa communities and increase more international visitors into the country.
