Korala checkpoint of Mustang is coming into operation from today (November 13).
Tasinarbu Gurung, chairman of Lomanthang Rural Municipality, informed that Nepal and Chinese officials are preparing to formally announce the opening of the checkpoint at 10 am.
Four years ago, China had closed the Korala border point during the COVID-19 pandemic. For some time now, the government has been making diplomatic initiatives with China for the operation of the Korala checkpoint. Local residents are happy after receiving the information from Chinese side that the border trade pass is being opened.
During Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda's visit to China last September, it was agreed that China would bring 14 Nepal-China border checkpoints including Korala into operation.
Mustang Chief District Officer Janak Raj Panta informed that nearly 1000 people of Lomanthang and Loghekar Damodarkund Rural Municipality of Mustang have been distributed 'Nepal China Entry Permits' after the checkpoint is operational.
Citizens with an entry pass will now have the facility to travel to and from China at any time.
