Gokarna Bista of CPN-UML has won the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) from Gulmi-2.
Bista, who is also the UML secretary, defeated his rival Ram Kumari Jhankri of the ruling alliance by a margin of 2,034 votes.
With this, Bista has been elected to the HoR for the fourth time from Gulmi-2.
According to the final vote count results, Bista notched up 28,476 votes against 26,442 votes obtained by Jhankri.
Of the total five elections Bista has contested since 2056 BS, he had faced a defeat only in 2064 BS.
Jhankri had been backed by Nepali Congress, Maoist Center and Rastriya Janamorcha.
Who is Bista?
Born at Isma in Gulmi, Bista had started his political career since the students’ movement in 2036 BS. He had become the president of All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) and Chairman of Democratic National Youth Forum.
He was elected as a member of the central committee of the UML in 2065 and secretary in 2071.
Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Management, Bista became ministers for two times -- the Minister for Energy and the Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security.
