General Secretary of Nepali Congress Bishwa Prakash Sharma has been elected as the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Jhapa-1.
According to the vote-count results unveiled by the Election Commission on Wednesday evening, Sharma defeated his closest rival Agni Kharel of CPN-UML by a huge margin of 14,276 votes.
He secured 39,624 votes while Kharel of CPN-UML received 25,349 votes.
Surendra Kumar Karki had won the elections of 2074 BS from this constituency. Sharma has been able to clinch the parliamentary seat in his third attempt.
