The government has called for a competitive bidding for the sale of five grounded planes brought from China after incurring a loss of 1 billion 906 million and 900 thousand rupees.

According to a tender notice published by the government today, any bidder willing to procure two MA-60 and three Y-12 E aircraft, can submit their bids at the Office of Nepal Airlines Corporation in Kantipath by February 4, 2024.

The aircraft brought from China are grounded at the Tribhuvan International Airport. The then government on November 25, 2012 had decided to procure six planes for Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) from China.

The government brought one MA-60 aircraft in the first lot and another aircraft Y-12 E landed in the Nepali land on October 4, 2014.

Similarly, another aircraft MA-60 was brought after 33 months. On February 25, 2018, three Y-12 E planes were handed over to Nepal by the Chinese Company.

One of the six planes met with an accident on the runway of Nepalgunj Airport on March 28, 2020. The other planes are awaiting repairs.

According to the Corporation Reform Suggestion Task Force coordinated by Sushil Ghimire, the Chinese aircraft incurred a loss of more than 910 million in the Fiscal Year 2073/74 alone.

The operating loss of Chinese planes has reached more than 1 billion 906 million and 900 thousand rupees, said Ghimire.
