Top leaders of major political parties have started holding conversations on the future political course well before the final outcome of the recently-held twin elections.

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal, whose relationship had soured following the dissolution of the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP), held a telephone conversation today.

The talks prompted speculations among the intelligentsia whether they are mulling to forge a possible alliance between the left-wing parties.

In a half-an-hour-long conversation, the heavyweights discussed the future political scenario and concluded that the post-election government is likely to be unstable, sources have said.

According to sources, Oli congratulated Prachanda on his elections to the House of Representatives from Gorkha constituency-2.

Prachanda’s press coordinator Surya Kiran said the chairman duo congratulated each other on their reelections.

“The chairpersons of the two parties exchanged congratulatory messages on their reelections,” said Kiran, adding, “They will hold talks again once the final results are out.”

According to sources, Oli expressed worry about the election results and hinted at having power sharing deal between their parties. In response, Prachanda remained noncommittal and told him that they would sit again to this end once all the results are out.

The early election results have indicated that none of the parties are likely to garner majority for the formation of the government.

UML Vice Chairman Subas Nembang, who is aware of talks between the two leaders, shared that the chairpersons held the first-ever telephone talks after the elections. It was Nembang who first contacted Prachanda from his constituency in Ilam on Thursday morning.

During their talks, Nembang said that Oli was interested to have a dialogue with him. Accordingly, Oli telephoned Prachanda later in the afternoon.
