The Nepali Congress, which faced an ouster from the government following a new coalition formed on Monday, has withdrawn its support to the government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
A meeting of the Central Work Execution Committee (CWEC) of the party held at President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha decided to withdraw support to the government led by Prime Minister Prachanda, said Vice President Dhanraj Gurung.
In a meeting held earlier in Budhanilkantha, an office-bearers’ meeting of the Congress decided to stay in opposition and engage in strengthening its internal organization in the coming days.
“It was the demand of the time. We extended support to Prachanda, accordingly. Now, he himself severed ties with the NC. I don’t think we committed any wrongdoings,” said Gurung, “We will stay in opposition and keep working for the protection of the Constitution. We will ask him a question, will the Constitution remain protected in alliance with the UML?”
The office-bearers and members of the CWEC of the NC participated in the meeting. Similarly, 10 NC ministers who lost their ministerial posts on Monday were also present in the meeting.
