Eight Nepali people who went to Russia on a visit visa and joined the Russian Army have gone out of contact.
A total of eight people including three from Byas Municipality, one from Devghat Rural Municipality, two from Bhanu Municipality, one each from Shuklagandaki and Myagde Rural Municipality.
The families of the victims have urged the government to search them after the eight people went missing in Russia.
The family members have appealed to the Safer Migration Program (SAMI), Tanahun, to look for the seven Nepali people who went missing after joining the Russian Army and one who went missing after joining the Ukraine Army.
“Seven people who went to Russia from Byas, Devghat, Bhanu and Shuklagandaki have gone missing and one from Myade who went to join the Ukrainian Army has gone missing. The family members have made an appeal to carry out search and rescue operations for the missing people, said Rana.
“Had there been Nepali Embassy in Ukraine, we would have sent a letter requesting a search and rescue. We have sent a letter to the Department of Consular Services,” said Luna, “They have responded that they are still carrying out search operations.”
She said that the search operation has been difficult since they joined the Russian Army illegally.
Goma Tiwari, the consultant at the Migration Resource Center, said that they have submitted an appeal calling for the search and repatriation of the people as soon as possible.
The Resource Center further said that the search operation is underway for the persons who went missing in Ukraine through the Consular Department.
According to Luna, they have gone missing for the last two to three months.
