Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' is taking the vote of confidence in the meeting of the House of Representatives today. The Federal Parliament Secretariat has made necessary preparations to this effect. The meeting of the House of Representatives will begin at 11.09 am.

With the dissolution of the previous seven-party alliance and the formation of a new ruling coalition including CPN (UML) on March 4, the Nepali Congress withdrew the vote of confidence given to the Prime Minister. Hence, Prime Minister Prachanda is going to take the vote of confidence again today as per the constitutional provision. Prachanda, who is also the chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), was elected as the Prime Minister on December 25, 2022. Earlier, he took the vote of confidence on January 10, 2023, for the first time.

Prachanda, who became the Prime Minister with the support of CPN (UML), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Janamat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) and others, received the vote of confidence from most of the parties and MPs in the House of Representatives for the first time.

At that time, 268 of the 270 MPs present in the Parliament gave a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Prachanda. His name is written as the prime minister who received the most votes in the history of Nepal. At that time all the parties including the Nepali Congress, and CPN (Unified Socialist) gave him a vote of confidence.

During the presidential election, the power alliance took a shift again. UML, RSP, and RPP withdrew their support to the government. Prime Minister Dahal again took the vote of confidence on March 20, 2023, after the new ruling coalition including NC was formed. He got 172 votes in the voting in the House of Representatives that day. Eighty-nine votes were cast against him.

Following the formation of a new power coalition on March 4, NC withdrew its support to Prime Minister Prachanda. Hence, he is taking the vote of confidence in the meeting of the House of Representatives today.

Five parties including UML, Maoist Center, RSP, JSP, and Unified Socialist have formed a new alliance and a new government has also been formed, accordingly.

The parties belonging to the alliance have also issued whips to give a vote of confidence to the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, the main opposition NC has issued a whip to vote against the confidence of Prime Minister Prachanda.

In the House of Representatives, there are 78 MPs from UML, 32 from the Maoist Center, 21 from the RSP, 12 from JSP, and 10 from the Unified Socialist. The Chairman of NUP and the leader of the parliamentary party, Ranjita Shrestha, also issued a whip instructing its MPs to cast a confidence vote to the Prime Minister.

As things stand, the Prime Minister is likely to secure the vote of confidence. The Prime Minister needs 138 votes to secure the vote confidence.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has included the issue of Prime Minister Dahal taking a vote of confidence as a possible agenda item for today's meeting of the House of Representatives.

"Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' will submit a proposal to secure the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives in accordance with Article 100 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, and the proposal will be tabled in the house meeting for deliberations and decisions," reads the agenda prepared by the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
