Six members of parliament (MPs) abstained from voting when Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ took the vote of confidence in the meeting of the House of Representatives today.
Of the 275-member House of Representatives, there are 274 MPs, currently. Of them, only 268 MPs were present in the voting. This is the third time, Prachanda took the vote of confidence today. He received 157 votes of confidence.
Of them, 75 UML MPs gave him the vote of confidence. There are 79 PMs from UML. Of them, lawmaker Subas Nembang from Ilam-2 passed away, Devraj Ghimire is the incumbent Speaker of the HoR, who is not allowed to vote, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi is suspended while Basanta Nembang is critically ill.
Similarly, Prachanda received 32 votes of confidence from Maoist Center, 21 from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), 12 from Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), 10 from CPN (Unified Socialist) and four from Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP).
Likewise, Prabhu sah from Aam Janata Party and two independent MPs –Dr Amresh Kumar Singh and Yogendra Mandal – gave the vote of confidence to Prachanda.
A total of 110 MPs cast votes against Prime Minister Prachanda. Eighty-seven MPs from Nepali Congress, 13 from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), five from Janamat Party, four from Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) and one from Rastriya Janamorcha voted against Prachanda.
In the meeting today, RPP’s Gita Basnet and Janamat’s Sonu Murmu abstained from voting. Nepal Workers Peasants Party (NWPP)'s MP remained neutral. Prem Suwal is the MP from NWPP.
