Main opposition Nepali Congress has issued a whip to not give the vote of confidence to Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Shalikram Jamkattel.
A meeting of the Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Work Execution Committee on Sunday issued a whip directing its provincial lawmakers to not give the vote of confidence to Chief Minister Jamkattel.
A meeting chaired by Nepali Congress Bagmati President Indra Baniya and participated by parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Assembly Bahadur Singh Lama took a decision to this effect.
“On February 6, 2023, the Nepali Congress Bagmati Province had given the vote of confidence to Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel of CPN (Maoist Center). The NC withdrew its support to Chief Minister Jamkattel after it pulled out of the province government on March 6, 2024 following following the formation of a new ruling coalition including CPN (UML). Against this backdrop, the NC Bagmati Province Committee calls on all its provincial lawmakers to not give the vote of confidence to Jamkattel who is scheduled to take the trust vote on April 1,” reads the press note signed by chief secretary of provincial office, Raju Nepal.
Nepali Congress is the largest party with 37 MPs in the Bagmati Province Assembly. In the 110-member Bagmati Province Assembly representing seven political parties, 56 MPs are required to secure the vote of confidence.
