A mobile team will be deployed to renew the passports of almost 1,500 Nepali people residing in Romania.
The mobile team is being deployed to Romania to renew passports for nearly 1,500 Nepali residents in the European country at the initiation of Nepali Ambassador to Germany, Ram Kaji Khadka.
According to Ambassador Khadka, a join team from the Embassy and the Department of Passports will reach Bucharest, the capital of Romania on coming Friday.
The team will start its work from April 12 and continue working until April 16, according to the schedule.
“The passports of Nepali residents will be renewed after verifying the details including the fee and those applications received online,” Naresh Giri, a Nepali youth who is facilitating at the local level, told Nepalkhabar, “All the passports will be renewed by April 16.”
According to Ambassador Khadka, around 1,500 Nepali people have applied online for the renewal of their passports. Some of them have not completed the paper works including the fees. The application processes of around 100 out of 1,406 service seekers are incomplete, according to Khadka.
The Nepali Embassy in Germany covers Romania for passport-related matters, meaning Nepali residents there can renew their passports through the embassy.
Earlier, Nawa Raj Pokharel, then honorary consul of Nepal to Romania, used to charge the Nepali residents heavily for renewing their passports. Pokharel used to charge up to Rs 46,000 (Romania currency 1,590) for the renewal of one passport while the official fee was only 600 in Romanian currency.
Ambassador Khadka took action against Consul Pokharel following allegations that Pokharel was exploiting Nepali residents by charging them excessively while renewing passports.
Service seekers have heaved a sigh of relief after knowing that Ambassador Khadka is sending a mobile to Romania to renew their passports, said Giri.
The number of Nepali migrant workers is increasing in Romania, of late.
