CPN (UML) leader Bimala Ghimire has been elected as the Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly.
Ghimire was elected to the post by defeating her rival Bishnu Devi Pudashaini of Nepali Congress with a margin of 23 votes.
Ghimire garnered 39 votes out of 55 lawmakers present during the NA voting to win the election to the post.
Sixteen lawmakers cast votes against the motion floated by Ghimire.
Similarly, sixteen lawmakers cast votes in favor of Pudashaini while 39 lawmakers voted against the motion floated by Pudashaini.
Earlier, on 12 March, Maoist Center’s Narayan Dahal had been elected as the chairman of the National Assembly. He was elected as the chairman with the backing of five ruling parties.
Ghimire received a total of 39 votes including 17 from Maoist Center, 10 from UML, 8 from Unified Socialist, 3 from JSP.
Ghimire, a central member of the UML, had been elected to the National Assembly representing Kapilvastu.
The post of vice chairperson in the National Assembly was lying vacant after former Vice Chairperson Urmila Aryal resigned from the post on March 29.
