Following a protracted period of heated debates and disagreements, the ruling parties have hammered out a deal to allow the post of Chief Minister to Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) in Sudurpashchim.

A meeting of the ruling CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Nagarik Unmukti Party convened in Baluwatar on Sunday morning struck a deal to this effect.

“Parties have reached a consensus to allow NUP to lead Sudurpashchim Province government in the first phase as part of the power-sharing deal,” NUP Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha told Nepalkhabar.

After this, the leadership will go to the Unified Socialist.

With the power-sharing deal, NUP leader Kailash Chaudhary is poised to become the Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim.

Earlier, Chairman Ranjita appointed Kailash Chaudhary as the parliamentary party leader after removing Ghana Shyam Chaudhary.

Kailash, who served as a state minister during the government led by Nepali Congress, is considered close to Ranjita.

Following the formation of a new ruling coalition, he was removed and another lawmaker Indira Giri was appointed to his post.

Ranjita sacked Giri as the state minister following the dispute between Ranjita and Resham over the ruling alliance.

There are senior leaders to Kailash in NUP. Resham was in favor of Nepali Congress while Ranjita wanted to participate in the newly formed alliance.
