CPN (UML) candidate Suhang Nembang has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Ilam constituency 2.
Suhang won the election with 27, 772 votes. His closest rival of Nepali Congress Dambar Bahadur Khadka stood second with 21,942 votes.
Dambar trailed behind Suhang by 5,830 votes.
Similarly, independent candidate Dakendra Singh Thegim has received 11,457 votes. He finished third. Milan Limbu, the candidate of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), secured 5,000 votes and finished fourth.
The by-election was held on Saturday on April 27 after the death of former Speaker and UML leader Subas Nembang, who had been elected as a member of the House of Representatives from this constituency.
There were 115,889 voters in Ilam-2. The voting was held in 149 polling centers, and 79 polling stations.
The turnout in by-poll held in Ilam constituency-2 for House of Representative (HoR) remained at 59.79 percent, according to the Office of the Chief Election Officer.
The Office said that a total of 69,287 voters including 35,135 men, 34,150 women and two others cast their votes in the HoR by-election.
A total 19 candidates including 12 from political parties and seven independents were in the fray for the Ilam 2 by-elections.
In the HoR elections held in November 2022, the voters' turnout was 57.44 percent in Ilam constituency 2.
