The US Embassy in Kathmandu has stated that press freedom, accountability, and transparency are guiding principles reacting to the arrest of Kailash Sirohiya, chairman of Kantipur Media Group.

Issuing a press note on Social media, the US Embassy said, “We expect that as Nepal continues to shape its hard-own democracy, the Government and people of Nepal will have a meaningful dialogue about how to ensure good governance, freedom of the press, and people’s fundamental rights."

The US Embassy’s press note has come one day after the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested Media Mogul Sirohiya from Thapathalil-based office of Kantipur Publications on Tuesday in line with the arrest warrant issued by the Dhanusha District Court.

A single bench of Dhanusha District Court Judge Chitra Bahadur Gurung on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant paving the way for the police officials to arrest Sirohiya in the citizenship case.
