Plainclothes police officials at Thapathali-based office of Kantipur Publications in course of arresting Kailash Sirohiya on Tuesday.

A gathering of editors of different media outlets in Kathmandu has condemned the arrest of Kailash Sirohiya, the chairman of Kantipur Media Group, on Wednesday.

Issuing a five-point memorandum, the editors drew the attention of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ towards the detention of Sirohiya describing it 'arbitrary, prejudiced and a blatant attack of the press freedom.'

The gathering has also concluded that the entry of the police officials into the office of Kantipur Publications in a broad daylight is a premeditated attack on the press freedom by unleashing terror and a highhandedness of the police administration.

Meanwhile, the editors in the memorandum have also demanded action against Home Minister Lamichhane in the dual passport case and the embezzlement of cooperatives’ fund.
