Main opposition Nepali Congress has endorsed the agreement reached with the ruling party on the formation of the parliamentary investigation committee.
A meeting of the parliamentary party (PP) convened on Tuesday morning endorsed the agreement reached with the ruling party on the Terms of Reference (ToR) at the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Monday evening.
With the endorsement, the parliamentary standoff created by Nepali Congress is likely to end from today. A meeting of the taskforce being held today will give a final touch to ToR, informed Ramesh Lekhak, the chief whip of the NC.
“The meeting of the taskforce will give a final touch to the ToR of the Parliamentary Investigation Committee,” said Lekhak, “We will finalize the names of the committee members by 3 pm.”
The meeting held between top leaders of NC and the ruling parties held in Baluwatar on Monday evening agreed not to mention Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s name but the company and the cooperatives in which Lamichhane had been involved.
Earlier, NC had been reiterating that Home Minister Lamichhane's name be mentioned in the ToR.
Parliamentary proceedings have been impacted due to disruptions created by Nepali Congress demaning the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee to probe Home Minister Lamichhane's alleged involvement into the embezzlemnt of cooperative funds.
Currently, the taskforce meeting is underway to give a final touch to the ToR. Due to this, the budget speech called for 1 pm today has been rescheduled for 3 pm.
