Ruling alliance meeting begins at Baluwatar

Top leaders of the ruling coalition attending a meeting at Baluwatar.

A meeting of the five-party ruling alliance has started at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', senior Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Nepal, Beduram Bhusal among others are present in the meeting, sources have said. 

The meeting will review overall situation following the elections to the Member of House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly (PA) held on November 20. The meeting will also make an assessment of the election results as well as discuss other contemporary topics, according Unified Socialist General Secretary Beduram Bhusal. It is said that discussions will be held in the meeting on the formation of a new government as well.

The NC has won 57 seats and the Maoist Center 18 under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system in the election to HoR.

Similarly, the Unified Socialist has won 10 seats, the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party four and the Rastriya Janamorcha one seat in the election.

The top leaders of the Nepali Congress, the Maoist Center and the Unified Socialist, earlier, have said that the new government would be formed under the leadership of the present ruling alliance itself and they have held several rounds of discussions to that end.

The five-party coalition is comprised of the Nepali Congress, the CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), the Lokatantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal and the Rastriya Janamorcha.
