Member of Parliament (MP) and General Secretary of Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa suggested that the Parliamentary Investigation Committee on cooperatives formed on May 28 should study the issues seriously to reach the conclusion.

He argued that most of the cooperatives are performing well, but some have tarnished the sector and are found involved in fraud and embezzlement cases; therefore, the committee should investigate the issues critically.

MP Thapa assured that the Committee will investigate everyone involved including Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, GB Rai, the owner of Gorkha Media Network that allegedly embezzled the deposits of cooperatives including Suryadarshan Cooperative.

Those found guilty in the embezzlement case will be brought to book, added Thapa.

“Everyone including Home Minister Rabi and GB will be investigated and brought to book if found guilty,” said Thapa, “Those who are innocent should not be penalized. We expect the same from all the members of the probe committee.”

Speaking at the special time of the meeting of the House of Representatives, MP Thapa expected that all the members of the investigation committee would execute their works honestly and in an impartial manner.

MP Thapa said that the savings of cooperative victims should be returned. Taking part in the discussion on the annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2024-25, he mentioned that the savers of cooperatives should get their money back in time.
