Ruling coalition decides to give continuity to alliance

Underscores relevancy of the alliance

Top leaders taking part in a meeting called by the ruling alliance in Baluwatar on Monday evening.

A meeting of the ruling coalition has underscored the relevancy of the existing alliance in view of the challenges the country has been facing.

Issuing a press note following the meeting held in Baluwatar this evening, the ruling alliance said the people have given the mandate to the political parties to move ahead in unison for the political stability and economic prosperity of the nation.

“The results of the recently-held twin elections have justified the relevancy of the existing alliance to tackle the challenges facing the country. The mandate given by the people has clearly directed the political parties to move ahead in union on the path of political stability and economic prosperity,” said the press note issued by the party.

The meeting called to discuss contemporary topics including the formation of a new government and to review the results of the recently-held twin elections concluded that the government has successfully conducted the elections of the local, provincial and federal level.

With the successful conduction of the three-tier elections, the constitution has been further institutionalized and democracy consolidated laying the basis for political stability and economic prosperity, said the press note.

The ruling has also thanked all the citizens, security personnel, government staffers, election observers, media persons who helped to conduct the parliamentary elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', senior Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Nepal, Beduram Bhusal among others were present in the meeting.

The NC has won 57 seats and the Maoist Center 18 under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral system in the election to HoR.

Similarly, the Unified Socialist has won 10 seats, the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party four and the Rastriya Janamorcha one seat in the election.

The top leaders of the Nepali Congress, the Maoist Center and the Unified Socialist, earlier, had said that the new government would be formed under the leadership of the present ruling alliance itself and they have held several rounds of discussions to that end.

The ruling coalition is comprised of the Nepali Congress, the CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), the Lokatantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal and the Rastriya Janamorcha.
