Significant records have been made as the General Election 2022 have come to a conclusion, with the final results of first-past-the-post (FPTP) category already announced.
Meanwhile, vote count of the proportional representation (PR) category is expected to conclude today.
Here are 8 significant records set by 7 lawmakers in the General Election 2022:
Win with highest number of votes: CPN (UML) Chair Oli
CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli became the candidate to be elected to the House of Representative (HoR) receiving the highest number of votes in this election. Elected from Jhapa-5, Oli was elected with 52,119 votes.
Oli had also won the general election of 2017 with the highest number of votes. In that election, Oli garnered 57,130 votes.
Both in 2017 and 2022, Oli's closest rival was Khagendra Adhikari of the Nepali Congress (NC).
First declared and youngest winner: Yogesh Gauchan Thakali
Yogesh Gauchan Thakali of the Nepali Congress (NC) became the first winner of the General Election. He was elected from Mustang.
Gauchan Thakali's result was announced following the completion of counting of votes in Mustang on November 21, a day after the election was held on November 20.
NC candidate Gauchan Thakali was declared winner with 3,992 votes as his nearest rival Prem Prasad Tulachan of the UML got 3,078 votes.
Yogesh is the son of Romi Gauchan Thakali, who was defeated by Tulachan in 2017 General Election. Yogesh got elected to the HoR by defeating his father's rival.
Yogesh is not only the first winner of this election, but also the youngest winning candidate.
According to Election Commission records, he is 28 years old.
Eldest elected lawmaker: Maoist Center's Mahendra Raya Yadav
Mahindra Raya Yadav of the CPN (Maoist Center) is the eldest lawmaker to get elected to the HoR and will get an opportunity to preside over the HoR meeting before the House elects a speaker. It is customary for senior-most lawmaker to preside over the HoR meeting prior to election of the HoR speaker.
According to Election Commission records, Yadav is 84 years old.
Though Yadav is elected as a candidate of the Maoist Center, he is the president of Babu Ram Bhattarai-led Nepal Samajwadi Party.
Yadav vied and won the election with the election symbol of the Maoist Center due to the electoral coordination between the Maoist Center and the Nepal Samajwadi Party.
Last declared winner: Dolakha's Ganga Karki
The final result of the vote count in Dolakha was announced only on December 5, the last result announced 15 days after the election.
Ganga Karki of the Maoist Center won from Dolakha, a district having a single constituency, with 36,799 votes.
The Election Commission conducted re-polling in the district on December 1 following dispute in 14 polling stations on November 20.
Karki became the final winner of this election as the final result of the counting of votes that began on December 2 was finally announced on December 5.
Win with highest margin of votes: Ravi Lamichhane
Ravi Lamichhane, president of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), made news headlines since the start of the election.
Fueled by youth energy, the RSP, which was formed only after the conclusion of the local level elections on May 13, became the fourth largest party under PR category and won seven FPTP seats in the HoR. Along with such surprising performance, RSP President Lamichhane became the lawmaker winning the election with the largest margin of votes.
Elected from Chitwan-2, Lamichhane won with 49,300 votes, while his nearest rival Umesh Shrestha of Nepali Congress received only 14,988 votes.
The difference of votes between Lamichhane and Shrestha stood at 34,312. This is the largest difference of votes in the General Elections since the establishment of the Federal Republic.
Previously, the record of largest vote difference was made by UML's Dolakha candidate Parbat Gurung in the 2017 election. Gurung had won with a margin of 30,644 votes. While he received 55,457 votes, his nearest opponent NC's Rudra Bahadur Khadka received 24,813 votes.
Win by least margin of votes: Basanta Nembang of Panchthar
Elected from Panchthar, UML's Basanta Kumar Nembang won the election with the lowest margin of votes in the General Election 2022. Nembang got elected to the HoR by defeating Bhishma Raj Angdembe of the Nepali Congress.
While Nembang won with 32,135 votes, his nearest rival Angdembe received 32,089 votes. The difference between the winner Nembang and the nearest rival Angdembe was only 46 votes.
The vote difference between Nembang and Angdembe became the least vote difference in this election.
Win with lowest number of votes: Tek Bahadur Gurung from Manang
Manang's Tek Bahadur Gurung of the NC got elected to the HoR with minimal number of votes.
He was elected from Manang for the second time with 2,575 votes. His closest rival UML's Polden Chhopak Gurung received 2,247 votes.
The vote obtained by NC's Gurung is the lowest vote received by the winners of this election.
Though Tek Gurung became a lawmaker by getting lowest number of votes, he will not be able to participate in the HoR meeting due to a financial irregularities case filed against him.
