The Nepal government has sent a diplomatic note to the Government of India on the encroachment of the Mahakali River and atrocities carried out against the Nepali nationals in Darchula bordering India.
In its diplomatic note dispatched through the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) urged India for a long-term solution over the matter.
The MoFA also drew the attention of the Indian government over repeated attacks against the Nepali people in Darchula. In a recent incident, the Indian side pelted stones at the Nepali nationals after the latter staged protests against the illegal embankment constructed by India on the Mahakali riverbank.
For the last one year, the Indian side has been constructing an embankment encroaching upon the Mahakali River from the Dharchula side of the Indian State of Uttarakhand.
In its diplomatic note, the MoFA asked the Indian side to immediately halt the unilateral construction of the embankment, consult the Nepali authorities prior to building such activities along the border and take precautionalry measures to prevent similar incidents in future.
