Saptakoshi River swells up as incessant rains continue to pour down in eastern hills of Nepal.

The water level in the Saptakosi River has increased due to continuous rain in the eastern hilly areas. In view of the rise in the water level, the local administration has opened all 56 sluice gates in the Koshi Barrage.

According to Chief District Officer Ramchandra Tiwari, Sunsari, all gates were opened after more than 368,000 cusecs of water hit the barrage per hour.

As the water level continues to rise, red lights have been lit and red flags have been hoisted at the Koshi barrage to signal danger.

The Saptakosi Hydromeasuring Center has said that the water level has gone above the danger mark. The risk of river flooding has increased in some areas of Udayapur and Sunsari.

Chief District Officer Tiwari has urged the residents living along the coastal areas to exercise precautions.
