Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ' Prachanda' is taking  the vote of confidence today.

Prime Minister Prachanda is scheduled to take the vote of confidence in the meeting of  House of Representatives that will begin at 11 am.

The Prime Minister has to take the vote of confidence within 30 days when a coalition partner withdraws its support to the government.

CPN (UML), the largest coalition partner, withdrew its support to form a new coalition with Nepali Congress.

In the 275-member HoR, the support of 138 MPs is mandatory to secure the vote of confidence.

However, Prachanda is likely to receive only 63 votes including 32 from CPN ( Maoist Center), 21 from Rastriya Swatra Party (RSP) and 10 from CPN ( Unified Socialist).

Nepali Congress, UML have already decided to vote against the Prachanda. Similarly,  fringe parties Janata Samajbadi Party (7), Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal and Rastriya Prajatantra Party have also decided to vote against Prachanda.

NC and UML have planned to form a new government in accordance with Article 76 (2)  of the Constitution as soon as the Prime Minister fails to secure the vote of confidence.

On the other hand, there is a dispute whether it would be legal for the President to invoke the same Article 76(2) for the formation of a new government when Prachanda had been appointed the Prime Minister in line with the same Article.

The Maoist Center argues that the next government shall be formed in line with Article 76(3) if he fails to secure the vote of confidence.
