17 out of 54 missing in Trishuli identified

Rescue team from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force including divers deployed at the incident site for the rescue of missing passengers on Friday.

The names of 17 out of 54 passengers who went missing in the Trishuli River after being washed away by a landslide this morning have been revealed.

According to the latest information released by the District Police Office (DPO), Chitwan, about 54 people went missing after the landslide washed away two passengers into the Trishuli River around 3:30 am.

DSP Bhesh Raj Rijal of DPO, Chitwan informed that Rajendra KC, the owner of Angel Deluxe bus, Bagmati Pradesh, 03-006 Ba 1516, who was coming to Kathmandu from Birgunj, is one among those missing in the Trishuli River. Bus driver Jawahir Mahato, who hails from near Birgunj Bus Park, is also missing in the river.

The owner, driver and co-driver of the ill-fated buses also disappeared along with the passengers in the river. Rijal said that there were at least six Indians among those missing. The police estimated that there were about 24 people in the bus that was heading to Kathmandu from Birgunj.

Similarly, there were about 30 passengers traveling in Ganapati Deluxe bus, Bagmati Pradesh, 03-00 1 Ba 2495, that was heading to Rautahat from Kathmandu.

Two buses plunged into the Trishuli River at Simaltal in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29 on Narayangadh-Muglin road section, after being washed away into the Trishuli River.

Chief District Officer of Chitwan, Indradev Yadav, informed that the Nepali Army and Armed Police Force along with divers have started searching for the missing persons in the swollen river.

Ganapati Deluxe bus, Bagmati Pradesh, 03-00 1 Ba 2495, heading to Rautahat from Kathmandu and Angel Deluxe bus, Bagmati Pradesh, 03-006 Ba 1516, heading to Kathmandu from Birgunj fell into the Trishuli  River after being swept away by a landslide in the wee hours of today.
