Nepali Congress leader Dr. Minendra Rijal has said the recently formed alliance between coalition partners -- Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) – is in jeopardy.
Despite having risks, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman have obligations to amend the Constitution as the agreement was based on the agenda of amending the Constitution.
“NC and UML had to take some risks to carry out their responsibilities toward the nation, putting aside their disbelief. Both the leaders agreed to take the risks posed by disbelief toward each other,” said Dr. Rijal, “There is risk for both the leaders.”
Given the current political scenario, there is higher risk for Nepali Congress compared to UML, he further said.
“There is more risk for NC. We have lost a strong basis in the course of taking part in elections. We have lost a big chunk of support in urban areas,” said Rijal, “NC lost 7 percent of supporters against 6 percent lost by UML. Out of 6 percent, Madhav Nepal’s party took away 3 percent. Hence UML lost three percent only while NC lost six percent of people's support.”
Rijal held that the Constitution had been amended for two times already and that the parties have already accepted it.
“We have got to update and amend the Constitution by incorporating the best practices and lessions we have learned so far. It has been amended twice, already,” said Rijal.
NC and UML have stood in one place to break the current hopelessness piled up for a lone time due to the failure of the political parties to live up to the expectations of the citizens, added Dr Rijal.
