Three girls buried alive after landslide washes away house in Ramechhap

Three teenage girls have been buried to death at Gokulganga Rural Municipality-6 in Ramechhap district.

The deceased have been identified as 18-year-old Sita Tamang, Ashika Dong, 15, and Laxmi Tamang 13, said DSP Pradeep Kumar Singh of District Police Office, Rameshhap.  

They were buried alive while they were huddling around fire for warmth when a landslide triggered by incessant rains washed away the house of Biman Tamang, a local, at Pharpu-6, on Thursday night. They had returned home after a day of rice planting, according to the police.

Biman and his wife who were in the other room of the same house escaped unhurt, said Chandra Sunuwar, ward chairman of Gokulganga-6. Sita is the daughter of Biman while Ashika and Laxmi are the daughters of Biman's neighbors, it is leart.

After being tipped off about the incident that the house was washed away by a landslide, a joint team from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Army under the command of Assistant CDO Kishan Neupane has been deployed to the incident site, said Ramechhap CDO Anita Niraula.

 Police officials from Betali Police Post with the help of locals have carried out the rescue work.
