Krishna Man Pradhan, a proposed candidate for the post of Election Commissioner, has withdrawn his candidacy for the fear of being rejected by the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC).
Pradhan has informed the PHC in writing that he has withdrawn his candidacy.
The PHC meeting had been slated for 11 am to take a decision on Pradhan’s candidacy.
Having been aware of the fact that no lawmakers were in his favor, he decided to withdraw his candidacy rather than being rejected by the PHC meeting, a source has said. Due to this, the PHC meeting was rescheduled for 5 pm.
A meeting of the Constitutional Council held on June 16 had recommended Pradhan for his appointment to the post of Election Commissioner. He has already faced the PHC.
If his proposal were endorsed, the President would appoint him as the Election Commissioner.
However, the PHC members shared the same opinion that he would not meet the required moral standards outlined in the Constitution due to his alleged involvement in sexual misconduct.
The PHC received a complaint which alleges that Pradhan had sexually abused a woman with the lure a job and that the case was settled in the court through a mutual understanding.
