Pakistani envoy insists on revitalizing SAARC for prosperity of South Asia

Pakistan's Ambassador to Nepal, Abrar H Hashmi, has emphasized on injecting new life to the South Asian Regional Cooperation Organization (SAARC) for the prosperity of South Asia.

Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Monday, Hashmi said that SAARC, which was established with the aim of raising the living standards of the people of the region through regional cooperation, should not be made inactive.

Ambassador Hashmi said that the goal and purpose of SAARC is to establish peace in South Asia, exchange mutual assistance in economic, social, cultural, technical and scientific fields. He said that SAARC is addressing the issues of the people of South Asia such as water resources, energy, climate change, natural disasters, agriculture, health, environment and food security.

He further said that SAARC can be made dynamic through the economic growth of South Asia, social progress and cultural development, expansion of mutual trust and understanding, strengthening cooperation in international platforms in matters of common interest and partnership with other international and regional organizations with similar goals and objectives.

Expressing concern that the 19th summit of SAARC scheduled to be held in Islamabad on November 9 and 10, 2016, could not be held till today, Ambassador Hashmi said that his country is ready to host the conference. "We will successfully complete the summit after completing all the preparations in two months after the President Nepal informed us that the conference will be held," he said.
