Sudurpashchim Province CM Shah secures vote of confidence

Chief Minister of Sudurpashchim Province, Kamal Bahadur Shah, received the vote of confidence on Wednesday.

The motion submitted by Chief Minister Shah in the provincial assembly meeting seeking the vote of confidence was endorsed by a majority of lawmakers, announced Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari.

In the confidence motion floated by Chief Minister Shah, 36 lawmakers voted for the motion while eight lawmakers stood against the motion. Independent lawmaker Dr. Tara Prasad Joshi remained neutral. In the 53-member province assembly of Sudurpashchim, 45 lawmakers took part in the vote of confidence.

Shah secured two-thirds votes of confidence including 18 from Nepali Congress, 11 from CPN (UML), and seven from Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP).

Congress Parliamentary Party leader Shah had been appointed as the Chief Minister of Sudurpashchim Province with the backing of UML in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution on August 4.

This is the second term for Shah as the Chief Minister of Sudurpashchim Province. In the 53-member province assembly, the support of 27 lawmakers is required to secure the vote of confidence.

There are 10 lawmakers from CPN (Maoist Center), four from CPN (Unified Socialist) and one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party and one independent lawmaker.
