The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on Wednesday decided to remove the TikTok ban paving the way for the social media platform to resume operation in the country.

Communication Minister Gurung sent the Ministry's decision on the TikTok ban removal to the Council of Ministers seeking approval, a source at the Ministry told Nepalkhabar.

"Minister Gurung sent the decision regarding the removal of the ban on the social media platform TikTok to the Council of Ministers. The regular cabinet meeting to be held on Thursday will endorse it," the source said.

Once the cabinet endorses the Ministry's decision to lift the TikTok ban on Thursday, the TikTok app will resume operation across the country. Following the approval by the cabinet meeting, the Communication and Information Technology Ministry will send a letter to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) directing the latter to bring the app TikTok into operation.

The then Prachanda government on November 13, 2023, banned TokTok stating that its objectionable short videos and live streaming eroded social harmony.
