ECN recommends govt to set Dec 1 for by-elections

Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) has advised the government to conduct by elections in the vacant posts of the local levels.

A team led by Chief Election Commissioner, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, met with Prime Minister KP Oli in Singha Durbar and advised him to conduct the by-elections on December 1, according to the Prime Minister's secretariat.

A total of 41 positions including that of two district coordination committees are lying vacant, currently.

In the meeting, Prime Minister Oli assured that the government will announce the date earliest and urged the ECN officials to conduct the by-elections in a frugal, free, fair and peaceful manner.

Deputy Prime Minister Bishnu Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal were present during the meeting.
