Ambassador-designate Krishna Prasad Oli has pledged to actively support the implementation of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Expressing his views during a parliamentary hearing on Sunday, Oli said, “I will try my level best to implement the decisions taken by the government on BRI.”
The Nepal government had agreed to participate in BRI in 2017. However, no BRI projects have been signed so far.
Two major ruling parties – Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) – do not have similar views on BRI.
While Nepali Congress has been saying that the Nepal government should take only grants from BRI, UML is in favor of accepting grant, loan and investment.
Ambassador-designate Oli also presented his action-plan in the PHC committee today.
If he is endorsed by the PHC, the President will appoint him as the Nepali Ambassador to China.
