CPN (UML) leaders have met with CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at the latter’s residence in Khumaltar.
UML leaders including Rajan Bhattarai, Dipak Niraula, Bidya Sundar Shakya reached Khumaltar to meet with Maoist Center Chairman Prachanda this afternoon.
During the meeting, the UML leaders drew the attention of Prachanda toward the decisions taken by the Supreme Court on the land on the coastal areas and human settlements on the river banks in the Kathmandu Valley.
In response, Chairman Prachanda said that his party will take an official decision through a central committee meeting on the issues related to the land and human settlements along the coastal areas of the rivers in the Kathmandu Valley.
Talking to the delegation, Prachanda suggested that the government should challenge the decision of the Supreme Court stating that this decision has posed many problems.
The apex court’s verdict on the people occupying the land along the coastal areas has created big problems in the Kathmandu Valley, the delegation members have said.
According to the Supreme Court decision, at least 20 meters of land on either side of the rivers, streams and rajkulo (a type of canal) in the Valley should be spared, which is likely to displace thousands of people, let alone Pashupatinath Temple.
The delegation informed Prachanda that they have already urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to go for vacate against the SC decision after meeting with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in the course of lobbying.
UML leaders Rajan Bhattarai, former mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Bidya Sundar Shakya, among others were present in the delegation.
