Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah, has accused the leaders of inciting people while trying to implement the existing law and verdict of the Supreme Court.
Mayor Shah stated on social media that UML leaders attempted to instigate the public while the Kathmandu metropolis was working to relocate settlements along the banks of the rivers in the Kathmandu Valley.
Stating that the government itself set the standards of the rivers and rivulets urging the authority not to pose hurdles while trying to implement the law by instigating the people.
"The lawmakers, who are responsible for creating and amending the laws governing rivers and rivulets, should not be blamed for the Kathmandu metropolis' implementation of these laws and court rulings," Mayor Shah wrote on social media.
Blaming the Kathmandu metropolis cannot bring justice, Shah vehemently stated.
The houses which fall under the new standards will not be demolished, Shah said. “The houses which fall under the new standards will not be demolished. Those which are to be demolished will get compensation from the government. Do not expect compensation from the government that failed to give you compensation for the land at Tinkune 50 years ago,” said Shah, “Exert pressure on the government for the change of law. When the law changes, we will issue a notice, accordingly.”
Some UML leaders including former Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya a few days ago met with the leaders of different political parties and urged them to resolve the land-related issues on the riverbanks in the Valley.
