TikTok, a leading social media platform for short-form mobile videos, has announced a vacancy for the post of Public Policy Manager (Global Public Policy-Nepal) on Thursday.
This is the first time TiKTok has announced its vacancy for the post after the Nepal government lifted the TikTok ban on August 22, 2024. The government had imposed a TikTok ban in Nepal on November 13, 2023 for allegedly disrupting social harmony in the country through short videos.
Announcing the vacancy, the company has said that the Public Policy Manager will build and maintain relationships with the Nepal government, policymakers and key opinion leaders.
Similarly, the candidate will also be responsible for executing strategies for engaging with policymakers around issues important to TikTok and its community of creators, the social media platform said in its advertisement today. The other duties and responsibilities include, identifying, monitoring and analyzing relevant policy trends and legislative proposals.
The candidate will also have to articulate policy positions in briefing papers, consultation responses, and internal policy meetings, according to the company.
Qualifications
According to the compnay, the candidate should have a direct experience in public policy and/or government relations and advocacy work, knowledge of the legislative process and tech policy, business proficiency in writing, reading, and speaking in English and Nepali.
Similarly, she/he should have an advanced degree in Political Science, International Affairs, Government, Public Affairs, related field, or equivalent practical experience, said the advertisement.
A previous experience working at a global technology company or international organization, advocacy experience, including the ability to analyze and communicate business implications of public policy are preferred skills, the company said.
TikTok's position in Nepal
With its growing popularity, TikTok has been the highest tax-paying social media platform in Nepal. According to the Large Taxpayers Office, it generated Rs 13.3 million in the last fiscal year despite the government ban.
Launched with the aim of inspiring creativity and bringing joy in 2016 by the Chinese technology company ByteDance, TikTok's global headquarters are based in Los Angeles and Singapore, while its offices include New York, London, Dublin, Paris, Berlin, Dubai, Jakarta, Seoul, and Tokyo.
